Manchester United Under-21s host Manchester City in a youthful local derby on Tuesday evening, welcoming the Citizens to Old Trafford in the Under-21 Premier League.

The Red Devils currently sit top after Chelsea’s recent 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, while Liverpool were also held to a draw at Sunderland in an eight goal thriller. As a result, Warren Joyce’s side require four points from their remaining two league outings to guarantee champions status.

However, both games will come against their noisy neighbours, with an away clash to City still to be arranged to conclude the season. The two sides last met back in August in the Manchester Senior Cup, which saw James Wilson net a staggering four times as United secured a 4-1 victory despite conceding first.

The Red’s last fixture saw Ashley Fletcher net the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Southampton, but Wilson is expected to return to the starting eleven in replacement of the forward – who celebrated his first ever goal for the Under-21s. Nonetheless, Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira will be unavailable due to international duty with the Under-20s.

Ben Pearson is now available following his successful loan spell with League One outfit Barnsley, and the likes of Reece James, Will Keane and Saidy Janko could all be available to Joyce after returning from their respective clubs. Michael Carrick has been ruled out for the season and will be unable to offer experience to the youth ranks.

Manchester United are offering free entry to all supporters for the evening fixture.
