Louis van Gaal was a very happy man after Manchester United sealed a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Derby County.
Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a wonderful curler, before George Thorne brought the Rams back into the game with virtually their first chance of the game, beating David de Gea after running through on goal.
However, second-half goals from Daley Blind and Juan Mata ensured that the Red Devils were rewarded for a good all-round performance, and they will be in the pot for the fifth round draw on Sunday.
Van Gaal expressed his happiness in his post-match interview with MUTV, saying:
I am very happy. The performance was also very good and I said that at half-time; that we can continue with the way we had played in the first half.
We gave a goal away and it was by ourselves again, but I liked the performance in the first half, it had a lot of confidence and that is back which is very important.
The second half was even better, we created a lot of chances and we scored goals. But also we created more chances to score more goals. I am a very happy coach.
The Dutchman also praised the performance of Anthony Martial, who was a constant threat all night long and provided two assists for Rooney and Mata:
He started not so good, I think, but I said that to him and after the first 20 minutes he came into the match and he was fabulous. I am very happy that he is a Manchester United player because I think he shall be a great player for Manchester United for a long time.
Finally, van Gaal praised the United fans that travelled down to the Midlands to support their side, creating a superb atmosphere in the process:
It is unbelievable and still they come to watch ‘boring’ Manchester United. It is fantastic – amazing!
