Six points adrift of bitter rivals Manchester City and struggling to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Manchester United have a lot of work to do this summer if they are to mount a serious challenge on more than one front in 2016-17.

With the defence, midfield and attack needing additions during the next transfer window, there are bound to be many names floated around – from Ramos and Varane to Kante and Vardy; one thing this season should have taught United is that league-winning talent doesn’t need to cost upwards of £50 million.
