As Manchester United eased to victory over Shrewsbury Town on Monday night, manager Louis van Gaal handed another debut to one of the club’s youth products, with Joe Riley playing his first game for the Reds.

Whilst the current injury situation might have forced van Gaal to introduce more academy players in recent weeks, most of them have responded well when presented with their opportunity.

Riley’s inclusion in the game means van Gaal has now handed debuts to ten United youth players in less than two years in charge.
