Manchester United are interested in signing Werder Bremen youngster Johannes Eggestein, according to German newspaper Weser Kurier.
According to the report, United have scouted Eggestein on numerous occasions and are interested in making a move for him in the summer, with his contract due to run out.
Bremen have been trying desperately to hold on to one of their most talented prospects, but face an uphill battle to do so, with no progress made during contract negotiations so far.
The 17-year-old striker has not yet made his professional debut for Bremen, but he’s been in fantastic form for their under-19s this season, scoring 22 goals in just 16 appearances.
If the Red Devils are to make such a move, they’ll have to compete with Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund for his signature, so it’d be interesting to see if the youngster would prefer to move abroad or to stay and develop in his homeland.
Eggestein is also capable of playing as a winger and he’s been capped by Germany at the under-15, under-16 & under-17 levels and it’s only a matter of time before he plays for the older age groups too.
