A massive victory for Manchester United today, as they beat their crosstown rivals in the 171th edition of the Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium.
Both teams were looking to rediscover their form, United especially after falling to an aggregate defeat against Liverpool in the Europa League in midweek. City, meanwhile, had come into this game on the back of a goalless draw against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League, losing Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi in the process.
In the end, a Mancunian decided the game, as Marcus Rashford scored the vital goal in the first half, receiving the ball from Juan Mata before skinning Martin Demichelis and cooly slotting the ball past Joe Hart.
It was a vibrant attacking performance by United in the first period, and they could have had a penalty in the dying embers of the half after Demichelis tripped up Rashford in the area. Michael Oliver waved away the United protests, but it was clearly the wrong decision.
City upped the tempo in the second half and dominated as United sat back, but Sergio Aguero hitting the woodwork was the closest the Citizens came to equalising. In the end, United held out and sealed the win.
