The fixtures for the 2016-17 Premier League season have been announced today, and as always, Manchester United fans will be looking out for when the biggest matches will take place.
With José Mourinho now at the helm at Old Trafford, United will be looking to reclaim their place at the top of the Premier League, but they will face tough competition from across town, where Pep Guardiola will take charge of Manchester City.
The London clubs will also be especially strong, with Antonio Conte taking charge at Chelsea, while Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal will also be in and around the title fray as usual.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool may also be in and around the competition for a Champions League place and clashes between United and Liverpool will always be fierce.
And of course, we can’t discounted reigning champions Leicester City – after a fairytale season, can Claudio Ranieri’s men stay in the title picture, with the added caveat of Champions League football to contend with?
So, here are the most anticipated United fixtures for the 2016-17 season:
Manchester City (H) - September 10
Old rivalries are set to be renewed when Mourinho and Pep Guardiola meet for the first time in the Premier League at Old Trafford. The Manchester Derby could turn into quite the feisty affair with the two men in charge.
Leicester City (H) - September 24
Claudio Ranieri’s men shocked the world to win the Premier League last season – and United’s first meeting against the Foxes in the league will go a long way to seeing where the Reds are at in comparison to the best in the league.
Liverpool (A) - October 15
Anfield is a trip that United have relished in recent years – last season, Wayne Rooney’s volley helped United take all three points from Merseyside and the Reds will be hoping Mourinho’s presence continues this good run.
Chelsea (A) - October 22
The first meeting between Conte and Mourinho – two managers that have been compared to each other – will be another highly anticipated fixture. Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge will especially be an emotional occasion – he has been given a warm reception in the past, but will he be given one as United manager?
Liverpool (H) - January 14
Liverpool-United is always the first fixture that any United fan looks for on the fixture list and with Klopp in his first full season in charge, they will be a different side to contend with. Last season, Anthony Martial announced himself to the world with a phenomenal finish in a 3-1 win at Old Trafford.
Manchester City (A) - February 25
With the Manchester Derby being highly anticipated by many, the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium is also on our list. Last season, Marcus Rashford decided the Derby with a cool finish to secure a one-goal win.
Chelsea (H) - April 15
The second fixture between the two sides at Old Trafford may potentially be a title decider, coming so late in the season.
Arsenal (A) - May 6
A fixture that has lost some of its edge in recent years – but with Mourinho joining the Reds and not having the best of relationships with Arsene Wenger, this is another fixture that could turn feisty again. Part of a tricky run-in for United if they are challenging for the title.
Tottenham (A) - May 13
United may have won the first game of last season between the sides, but Spurs thrashed the Reds at White Hart Lane as they went on to finish second behind Leicester. Mourinho will be looking for his side to prove a point against Pochettino’s men when they face off. The second part of a tricky run-in if United are in contention for the Premier League title.
