Valencia want to sign Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo on a season-long loan, according to the Mirror.

The La Liga side are looking to bolster their defence with the imminent exit of Shkodran Mustafi to Arsenal and the 26-year-old Argentine international is their top target.

Valencia owner Peter Lim is keen to get some transfers done before the transfer window shuts this week and they want Rojo to join on loan before having the first option on a permanent deal next summer.

United are reluctant to let Rojo leave before the end of this transfer window due to a lack of depth in defence, but the defender has not been in a matchday squad for the Reds this term since being included on the bench in United’s opening day win over Bournemouth.

And Rojo’s agent, Carlos Gonçalves, refuted claims that his client would soon be leaving Manchester in an interview with Sport Witness on Monday:

Manchester United rejected several offers from England and from abroad to sell the player. Manchester United want him to stay.

It appears at this moment that Rojo will play a big part in José Mourinho’s cup and Europa League squads this season and not feature as much in the Premier League but the situation could change rapidly if Valencia tempt the Reds with a substantial offer. Watch this space.
