Manchester United will host West Ham in the EFL Cup quarter-finals after coming through a stern test in the Manchester derby on Wednesday night.

Juan Mata’s goal was enough to seal United’s progress into the next round of the cup at the expense of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side and José Mourinho’s men will now host the Hammers on either the 29th or 30th of November.

West Ham beat Chelsea at the London Stadium to secure their progress to the next round, with goals from Cheikhou Kouyaté and Edimilson Fernandes giving Slaven Bilic’s men the win, despite Gary Cahill’s late consolation for the Blues.

United have plenty of history with West Ham in cup competitions, with their most recent clash taking place last season in the FA Cup. The sides could not be separated in the initial encounter at Old Trafford, with an Anthony Martial goal cancelling out Dimitri Payet’s superb free-kick in the second half.

However, the Reds did eventually come out on top in the replay at the Boleyn Ground, with goals from Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini ensuring Louis van Gaal’s men advanced to the semi-finals, despite James Tomkins’ header sparking a late rally from the Hammers.

Elsewhere in the EFL Cup draw, the pick of the other ties sees Liverpool take on Leeds United at Anfield in what should be a heated clash. Arsenal also take on Southampton in a all-Premier League clash, while Hull City host a resurgent Newcastle United under the management of Rafa Benitez.
