Manchester United will face Hull City in the EFL Cup semi-finals after the Reds beat West Ham 4-1 at Old Trafford in their quarter-final clash.

United will face former player and assistant manager Mike Phelan’s Tigers after their fellow Premier League side edged out Championship frontrunners Newcastle United on penalties after drawing 1-1 on the night.

The other semi-final clash sees Southampton, who knocked out Arsenal, take on Liverpool, who beat Leeds United at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The semi-final is, of course, a two-legged affair, with the first leg taking place on January 10 at Old Trafford, before the two sides face off once again at the KC Stadium on January 26, with a trip to Wembley at stake.

United will be looking to make their ninth League Cup final, with their last trip to Wembley in this competition coming in the 2009-10 season. On that occasion, they would go on to lift the trophy, beating Aston Villa 2-1 with goals from Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney helping the Reds to their fourth League Cup victory.

The two sides have already faced each other once in the Premier League season, where a Marcus Rashford goal ensured an away victory for United at the death.
