Manchester United believe that they have an ‘agreement’ with Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann for the Frenchman to move to Old Trafford this summer, according to Yahoo Sport.
The French international has been heavily linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams in recent months, with this development suggesting that a move for the 25-year-old is at a more advanced stage than previously thought.
A source close to the Old Trafford club told the website that United had enquired over Griezmann’s availability last summer, with the Madrid club stating that they would be open to selling the striker as long as the Reds did not make any substantial moves to buy Griezmann in the January window.
The Reds will certainly have to go close to the world record transfer fee of £89 million they paid to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus if they are to possibly secure Griezmann’s services, with José Mourinho hinting that he already has a list of summer targets in mind.
And these latest reports, which suggest that personal terms have already been agreed between both parties, hint that United are already planning for life with Griezmann, with the Frenchman expected to take the fabled number seven shirt, which was recently vacated by the departed Memphis Depay.
Having scored 32 goals in all competitions for Atletico last season and played a pivotal role in France’s run to the final at Euro 2016, Griezmann has picked up where he left off, having scored 15 goals in all competitions so far for Diego Simeone’s men this season.
Having come third in the voting for the Ballon d’Or and The Best FIFA Men’s Player last season, the stage is perhaps set for the Frenchman to make a big money move in the summer and United are now firm favourites to acquire his services.
