Team News: Blackburn Rovers (A)
Manchester United take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Sunday in hopes of securing a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, having beaten both Reading and Wigan 4-0 in previous rounds.
In the 3-0 victory against French side Saint-Etienne at Old Trafford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Phil Jones all missed out due to illness and injuries. Mkhitaryan was ruled out with illness but is expected to return to the side having trained on Saturday.
Updates have not been provided on Rooney or Carrick but both may still be out, despite Jose claiming that both injuries were ‘minor muscle problems’. Phil Jones is out for the foreseeable future.
Luke Shaw may return to the side with what could be a completely different side given the congestion of fixtures. Shaw hadn’t featured for United in over two months before making a return against Wigan, and he has not been in the squad since, with Mourinho seemingly struggling to gain trust in the Englishman.
United are in good form going into the game having kept five clean sheets in consecutive games. The game is expected to be a chance for Mourinho to rest some of his key men ahead of the second leg clash against Saint-Etienne in the Europa League on Wednesday.
