United agree deal in principle to sign Nelson Semedo
Manchester United have a strong presence in Portugal in terms of their scouting network and over the last few years they’ve watched Benfica games frequently, but this season they’ve had their eyes on the Lisbon club every time they’ve played.
Who are United looking at? The likes of Renato Sanches and Goncalo Guedes have been players on their radar before they went onto bigger and better things with Bayern Munich and PSG respectively, but United are strongly looking at fullback Nelson Semedo.
The 23-year-old right-back has been impressive this season, contributing two goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions which has attracted the attention of Barcelona as well as United.
In need of a new right-back with Matteo Darmian set to leave in the summer, Sport (h/t Sport Witness) understand that United are willing to pay up to €40m for the defender in the summer transfer window, which comes close to the Liga NOS side’s valuation.
