Manchester United eager to strike summer deal for Marco Reus
Many believe that this will be Wayne Rooney’s final season at Manchester United and they are putting in extensive work to find his replacement this summer.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim Jose Mourinho has requested Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus be brought in to be that replacement for the club’s all-time record goalscorer.
Rooney has seen his value to United diminish in recent seasons and is now very much an afterthought in the first-team who fills in wherever Mourinho needs him, whether it be in midfield or in attack.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will also leave Manchester United in the summer when his contract expires and Reus is exactly the sort of big name goal threat that United want to bring in.
The 27-year-old winger would give United another dynamic option in attack while allowing both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to play in their more natural centre-forward positions.
Reus has struggled for fitness over the last two seasons, missing 39 games due to a myriad of muscular problems in the hamstring/thigh area.
That being said, Reus has still contributed 11 goals and eight assists in 21 appearances this season and holds a reputation of being one of European football’s most dangerous wide forwards.
