Manchester United are through to the Europa League final, but not after enduring a nervy finale against Celta Vigo at Old Trafford.

José Mourinho started the same side that took a narrow lead away from Spain and Marouane Fellaini gave the Reds an early lead, heading home at the far post after Marcus Rashford put in a sensational cross.

But from then onwards, United laboured through most of the second half as Celta pushed forward in an attempt to get back into the tie and they found their way back with five minutes remaining; Facundo Roncaglia heading home from a corner to give the travelling fans hope.

Mayhem then ensued, as a scuffle broke out in the middle of the pitch, with goalscorer Roncaglia and Eric Bailly sent off for their part in the melee. Of course, that means that Bailly will miss the final in two weeks’ time, a massive blow for United.

A frenetic ending saw Ander Herrera saw an effort disallowed for a foul in the build-up and John Guidetti miss a virtually open net with the final kick of the game after some lovely build-up. It was just desserts for the Swede after his theatrical fall during the scuffle earlier.

And so, United will travel Sweden to face Ajax, who survived a Lyon fightback to make their way into the final. It should be another thrilling European night.
