Wayne Rooney has left Manchester United to return to Everton, the club from whence he came during the summer transfer window of 2004.
The Liverpudlian has left quite a legacy behind him at Old Trafford – as well as being United’s most recent captain, he is the club’s top scorer and won everything that was on offer to him at club level during his 13 years as a red.
Club legends have come and gone, as have managers, trophies, glorious victories and heart-breaking defeats – and Rooney has seen it all, proudly wearing the red of Manchester United from his teenage years into his thirties.
His departure is a new chapter for both the club and for the player himself – United are now looking to the future with a strong, young core including David de Gea, Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku – whereas Rooney is aiming to contribute to his boyhood’s club’s growing ambition – a project where he should feel right at home.
The tenacious striker played with 22 different strike partners during his time at Manchester United – can you name them all? It’s not easy.
