Manchester United have been linked with a move for SL Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo for a while now, but Barcelona appear to have stolen a march in the race to sign him.
According to a report from the Independent tonight, the La Liga giants have lodged an opening offer worth £27m for the defender. Barca have dropped their interest in landing Hector Bellerin from Arsenal this summer, and will now focus on acquiring Portugal international Semedo.
The deal on offer from Ernesto Valverde’s side is certainly a lucrative one, and is one that Benfica may be tempted to give in to. The initial bid is £27m, but additional bonuses could lead to the deal for Semedo resulting in a price of around £35m.
United are on the lookout for a new right-back this summer but will need to move quickly if they are to fend off competition from Barca for his signature.
