Manchester United have today confirmed that goalkeeper Sergio Romero has signed a new contract with the club.

Romero has enjoyed a successful spell with the Red Devils since his move from Sampdoria, despite playing as a backup. Jose Mourinho regards Romero as an understudy to David De Gea in terms of his goalkeeping options, but has chosen to utilise the Argentine on many occasions.

The experienced shot stopper has established himself as his country’s first choice goalkeeper under Jorge Sampaoli and will be keen to continue impressing in the 2017/18 campaign when he gets the chance.

Romero made 28 appearances for United last term, with just six of them coming as starts in the Premier League.
