Matteo Darmian has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer.
It’s not looking as though he’ll be rewarded with many starts in the forthcoming season by Jose Mourinho, but despite this, he has insisted that he is happy at the club and wants to remain in Manchester.
As quoted by Goal, the Italian international addressed reports linking him away from the club in recent times, stating that while the interest from Italian sides is flattering, he sees his future at Old Trafford.
In difficult moments, I always worked hard and tried to take every opportunity I had. Last season I did end up playing my games, it was a good end to the campaign and I am building on that.
Darmian faces stiff competition in the full-back slots, and it’s been claimed recently that Mourinho is targeting new additions in these positions. Danny Rose and Serge Aurier are two names that have been linked with moves to Old Trafford in recent times.
I’m pleased that Manchester United consider me to be off the market, just as I’m pleased by the interest of Italian clubs.
In any case, there was never anything concrete, so there’s no point talking about the transfer market. I see myself at Manchester United, I’m happy here.
However, the former Torino wing-back is determined to prove his worth to United manager Mourinho and the club’s fans this season, which kicks off this weekend.
