Manchester United are flying high at the top of the Premier League, and this season so far has a much more positive feel than seasons gone by — but we can’t get carried away.
United may have swept both West Ham and Swansea aside in their first two games of the Premier League season, and there are many positives to take from those results, but there is still room to improve, and there will be more difficult opponents this season.
The visit of Leicester City this weekend will provide a different challenge to that of the last two games, with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez well known now for their destructive potential.
So who will Jose Mourinho turn to as he looks to make it three wins — and three clean sheets — on the bounce before the international break next week?
Here’s who we think will turn out for the Red Devils on Saturday evening…
GK: David de Gea
The best in the league, bar none.
RB: Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian looks in the mood to replicate his fine 2016-17 season.
CB: Phil Jones
Imperious so far this season, if Jones can stay injury free and in this form, he’ll surely start for England in Russia in the summer.
CB: Eric Bailly
He’s had a few defensive partners already at United, but his partnership with Jones is looking very promising. Can he add to last weekend’s goal?
LB: Daley Blind
With Matteo Darmian left out of the squad last weekend, Blind’s place is assured at left-back, but he needs to play well with a Luke Shaw return looming.
CM: Nemanja Matic
Proving a marvelous acquisition so far, Matic patrols the midfield well and helps set the tempo for United.
CM: Paul Pogba
Can he make it three goals in three games this weekend?
CAM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The Armenian has four assists already this season and will certainly be looking to add to that tally!
RW: Juan Mata
His movement and vision are exceptional, and he has played a pivotal role in United’s opening two victories, making space for the likes of Pogba and Mkhitaryan to operate. Spanish wizard.
ST: Romelu Lukaku
On course for a 30+ goal season…
LW: Anthony Martial
After another goal against Swansea as a substitute, he is bound to be rewarded with a starting place this weekend.
