Manchester United are hoping to be one of the benefactors of a big change taking place at Huddersfield Town, with the newly promoted Premier League side deciding to massively downsize their academy.

The Terriers are cutting running costs by scaling their category two academy setup down to just a category four venture. This means that the Yorkshire-based side will only have under-23 and under-18 sides, and there is now no place there for many talented young players.

According to the Daily Mail, United have taken on England under-16 internationals Rocco Fragapane and Raj Mahmood, amongst many others.

The Red Devils have offered trials to 15 youngsters without a club in the aftermath of Huddersfield’s decision to dispose of the majority of their academy setup.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton are hot on United’s heels though, with the trio all reportedly interested in signing Sam Murray and Harvey Rowe, another pair who are currently showing United what they can do in the hopes of joining the Premier League giants.

Manchester United have a rich academy history, with the famous ‘Class of 92’ a great example of players developed in the right way, and Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard amongst those taking their opportunity in the current first team, to great effect.
