Mourinho surprised by Lukaku’s blistering start
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that even he didn’t expect Romelu Lukaku to get off to such a good start to life with the club.
The Belgian international was recruited for a fee of £75 million from Everton in the summer, and has since kicked on in remarkable fashion. He has netted eight goals in as many games for the Red Devils, and is leading the line well.
Lukaku’s goal against Southampton on Saturday proved to be decisive, also, as United came away with a toughly-contested 1-0 victory at St Mary’s Stadium.
His manager, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, admitted that he’s been incredibly impressed with the summer’s marquee signing.
I knew that he would always score goals. I knew that he would score more goals for us than for Everton or West Bromwich Albion, that’s logic. But I was not expecting him to be match after match putting the ball in the net.
Lukaku was a key figure for Everton and has stepped up to the mark in emphatic style for United.
Mourinho will now be keen for Lukaku to continue his good form on Wednesday night, when the Red Devils take on CSKA Moscow in Russia in the Champions League.
