United can sign Fabinho for just £53.5m
Manchester United spent big in the summer bolstering their midfield, shelling out £40m to bring Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford from reigning Premier League champions Chelsea to accompany £89m club-record signing Paul Pogba in the side.
Michael Carrick is expected to retire after this season and Marouane Fellaini’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning United will be short of midfield options next season but they’re laying the foundations for bringing someone in.
According to reports, United are interested in signing midfielder Fabinho from Ligue 1 champions Monaco and the French club will be willing to sell the player if a team meets their £53.5m valuation in full.
Originally a right back, Fabinho has made a move into a central midfield role in recent years and excelled.
The 23-year-old is also wanted by rivals Manchester City along with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and it goes without saying that Monaco would rather not sell to a league rival after allowing Kylian Mbappe to join PSG in the summer.
