Manchester United defeated Benfica 1-0 after an error from teenage goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who was almost in tears at the full-time whistle. The Red Devils’ players went to console the youngster, but what was exactly said to him?

Fellow Belgian Romelu Lukaku was visibly supportive of his compatriot following the game and embraced the distraught shot-stopper.

Svilar, who became the youngest goalkeeper to ever feature in the UEFA Champions League, revealed exactly what Lukaku said to him, as reported by GiveMeSport.

Svilar said after the game:

He [Lukaku] just said that I don’t have to worry, continue to work and it’ll be okay.

Manchester United have won all three of their group games in the competition so far but Benfica proved to be a difficult test.

Svilar had a good game until the mistake, which proved to be so costly.

Rashford swung in a curling free-kick from the left hand side and the youngster totally misjudged the flight of the ball which resulted in him carrying the ball over the goal-line.

Lukaku himself suffered a setback at the age of 20, when he missed the decisive spot-kick for Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup but he kept going and has managed to bounce back in brilliant fashion.

Svilar will be hoping to do the same and it is great to see the more mature players supporting the youngsters.
