Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was present at the World Cup play-off first leg between Sweden and Italy in Stockholm as he scouted RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Emil Forsberg, the Daily Mail reports.

The 26 year-old was named man of the match as Sweden took a first leg lead ahead of the return leg in Italy tomorrow evening.

Forsberg is a transfer target for United and it is thought that Mourinho is keen to bolster his attacking options following from the lack of form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with his side aiming to chase down rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.

Forsberg was part of the brilliant Leipzig side last season who finished second in the Bundesliga and are currently in their debut season in the Champions League after being founded just eight years ago.

Forsberg was influtential in the match against the Italians and is really sought after by a number of top European clubs. Mourinho is seemingly keen to get in early.

Part of the reason the United boss was there was because two of his current United players were in action, as well. Victor Lindelöf and Matteo Darmian were both in action. The pair have struggled to break into the first team this season and it gave Mourinho the perfect opportunity to watch the pair in person in a high pressure situation of a World Cup qualifier.
