According to ESPN, Ander Herrera wants to stay at Manchester United, despite Barcelona and Atletico Madrid being interested in the Spanish midfielder.

Manchester United have triggered the clause in Herrera’s contract which means he will be at the club until 2019, but no long term deal has been proposed between the player and the club.

Herrera earned his move to United in 2014 for £36m after impressing in La Liga with Atletic Bilbao and he has improved since his move, which is why bigger clubs than Bilbao are now interested.

Since Matic’s arrival at Old Trafford, Herrera has found appearances hard to come by but has played more recently due to Paul Pogba’s injury, but the French star is expected to return very soon, and there is no way the £89m man will be dropped, so Herrera may want to move away for more first team football.

Herrera wants to be in contention for Spain’s World Cup squad at the end of the season, so first team football is a must if he wants to prove himself to Julen Lopetegui.
