Juan Mata keen to finish his career at Manchester United
Juan Mata is keen to finish his playing career with Manchester United.
The Spanish playmaker discussed his future plans with ESPN (via the Mirror) and was evidently enthused by the prospect of remaining at Old Trafford until the end of his career.
Why not? I’m 29 and hopefully I can play football for some more years.
Mata has been a good player for United since joining the club from Chelsea and has established himself as an important player in Jose Mourinho’s plans.
The former Valencia man was quizzed on how long he sees himself playing the game for and spoke of how he’d like to follow in Ryan Giggs’ footsteps by playing until he’s in his 40s.
It would be great to play until I’m 40 like Ryan Giggs. But that’s still a bit far, still 11 years. I’m happy here. The club is massive, the support we have is massive. I’ve been settled down in the city since year one. Now it’s my fourth year in Manchester.
Mata, 29, has started eight games in the Premier League so far this season and has come off the bench on one occasion. Although he has netted just one goal and contributed with just a single assist, he has performed well.
You never know what can happen in football and in life. But my feeling now is that I’m happy here and I wouldn’t have any problem continuing here for more time.
Mourinho will surely hope to have a player like Mata at his disposal for years to come at United.
