Jose Mourinho confirms Nemanja Matic injury
As quoted by BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez, Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Nemanja Matic has suffered a muscle injury.
Twitter: Jose: “For Nemanja Matic to tell me he wants to be replaced, he does not do that if it is nothing important. It is muscular.” #MUFC (@ShamoonHafez
Matic asked Mourinho to be taken off against Watford on Tuesday, which is unlike the Serbian according to his manager, who also has confirmed that it is a muscle injury which the midfielder suffered.
Matic joined United in the summer, along with Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof. He has been a vital part of many of Manchester United’s great performances this season, giving the likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera more freedom, which they may not have had last season when partnered together.
This injury comes at a bad time for United, as the club approaches the very busy Christmas period, where they will play in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
However, their squad is deep enough to deal with this injury as long as no other midfielders pick up injuries, as they will have Pogba, who recently returned from injury, Hererra and Marouane Fellaini to replace Matic.
