Manchester United round off 2017 by hosting Southampton at Old Trafford, with José Mourinho’s men looking to get back to winning ways after stumbling during the Christmas period.

Draws to Leicester and Burnley have dented United’s already-slim hopes of chasing down Manchester City for the Premier League title and it seems like it is a case of consolidating second place for the rest of the season instead of hunting down Pep Guardiola’s seemingly invincible side.

Southampton’s visit to Old Trafford should be the perfect opportunity for the Reds to get back to winning ways and sign off the year on a good note, for the visitors are in dire form.

You’d have to go back to late November for the Saints’ previous win and Mauricio Pellegrino’s job has come under real threat, with Southampton failing to win their last seven matches and were on the end of an absolute mauling by Spurs at Wembley on Boxing Day.

It isn’t a guaranteed three points for United by any means though, as defensive frailties, especially at set pieces, have really come to the fore in recent weeks and the Reds will certainly have to defend better to come away with the win.
