Valencia eye summer deal for Juan Mata
Valencia are interested in re-signing Manchester United attacker Juan Mata this summer as a free agent, according to the Daily Star.
The 29-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and is free to discuss a move abroad for the summer.
It had been reported that United activated a one-year contract extension but this now seems not to be the case.
Due to Alexis Sanchez’s impending arrival, it will be difficult for the Spanish midfielder to hold down a regular starting berth for the club.
Mata is one of United’s higher earners on roughly £170,000-a-week, giving United another reason to move the player on if he is not featuring in Jose Mourinho’s plans.
The Spaniard spent four years at Valencia before he left for Chelsea in 2011. Mata is a fan favourite at Old Trafford and has been able to hold down a place in Mourinho’s side since his arrival, despite many believing he’d be one of the first to leave the club.
