Manchester United lost further ground on league leaders Manchester City yesterday following a 1-0 defeat Newcastle United and Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry slammed Alexis Sanchez for his role in the game, as reported by the Express.
Matt Ritchie scored the only goal of the game as United slipped to their second consecutive away defeat.
Sanchez missed a guilt edge chance just 10 minutes into the second half at St James Park after he was played through brilliantly by Romelu Lukaku but he missed after hesitating with his shot as the opportunity went begging.
The Chilean international arrived at the club following a January swap with Henrikh Mkhitaryan which saw him move to the North London club.
Sanchez has struggled to settle in at United scoring just one goal in his first four games and that came from the rebound of a penalty which he missed against Huddersfield town last weekend.
Arsenal legend Henry was surprised by the way Sanchez acted when through on goal.
I actually don’t know (why he didn’t shoot), great pass from Romelu Lukaku, I thought he was very good today. And now, go around the ball and shoot. He didn’t and he allowed Lejeune to make the recovery there.
He continued and went on to add.
He has a look, I don’t know why he doesn’t shoot before that. But what a recovery from Newcastle and as Mourinho said, they did fight like animals. But you still had the opportunities to kill that game.
