United target Werner opts to stay at RB Leipzig
Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
As quoted by Goal, the Germany international has been discussing his future amid claims that he could leave Leipzig this summer. The forward is held in high esteem by those at the Bundesliga club and his comments are sure to come as a relief to the chiefs at Leipzig.
Werner was quizzed about whether or not he would stay with Leipzig for the 2018/19 campaign. His response was clear.
Next year, definitely.
Werner reaffirmed his commitment to the cause at the German club amid rumours that United could make a move for him when the summer transfer window opens.
The young striker recently admitted that moving to the Premier League is an ambition of his, but not at this early stage of his career. Werner also flirted with the idea of a move to United if the time is right.
I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs. But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though.
However, for now at least, it seems the clinical attacker will be staying put with Leipzig as he aims to help them to further success.
