Ander Herrera is in discussions with Manchester United over a new contract but is not close to sealing the deal just yet, according to Goal.com.
The midfielder’s deal is set to run out at the end of next season after signing for United in 2014.
Herrera was named United’s player of the year last season, with the midfielder adding a new dimension to his game under Jose Mourinho.
His gametime has been restricted so far this season, however, United are very keen to keep the Spaniard at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard told Mundo Deportivo that:
I am going to fulfil the year that I have left but I do not know if I will renew. We have started talking but nothing has been decided yet.
Obviously you are happier when you play, but it also comforts me to be physically well, to train to the fullest and go home with the assurance of having given the maximum.
The signing of Nemanja Matic has put Herrera down the pecking order, but the midfielder is ready to compete for his place.
