# Manchester United’s current transfer round-up

The latest rumours about potential newcomers to Louis van Gaal’s squad have been mentioning a Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado. The Fiorentina 26-year-old came to media focus in England after talks about his transfer to Chelsea, but while that move has been described as ‘on hold’, the name of Manchester United came up. Cuadrado was Van Gaal’s target in the last summer window, but the deal with Angel di Maria was then made as a priority. Cuadrado is predominantly an attacking right sided player, but can cover a number of positions and would be a perfect upgrade on Antonio Valencia, if the manager decides to keep his 3-5-2 formation. Cuadrado is known for his good ball control and quality end product. His value is estimated at 30 million pounds, but the strong negotiation position of his current club and the number of interested parties will certainly boost that price up.

Lack of quality defensive options and unconvincing performances by the British centre-back trio (Evans, Jones and Smalling) have launched stories about a potential United bid for highly rated Brazilian defender Marquinhos. The young centreback (20) became popular in the media when Roma sold him to his current club PSG for the record fee of 24 million pounds. He has told his agent he is ‘unsatisfied’ with his status at the reigning Ligue 1 champion, playing only three full league games since the end of September. His playing time this season has come due to Thiago Silva’s problems with injury, but since the manager Laurent Blanc prefers the partnership of first Brazilian national defensive pairing Luiz – Silva, Marquinhos’  future may lie elsewhere. Marquinhos is a ball-playing centreback, great at reading the game, distributing the ball and forward runs. However, he is not the greatest in the air, which may turn Louis van Gaal away to the direction of Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

The main story of the day is one about Aleksandar Dragović, Dynamo Kiev centreback. Various reports are saying Manchester United have already submitted the 15 million pound bid and agreed personal terms with the player. Dragović is less known to mainstream football circles, but he excelled in a stunning Dynamo run in Europa league group stages and is an essential part of a strong defence which conceded only 12 goals in 21 matches in all competitions this season when he played.

Dragović is a potential world beater. At 23 years old, he has been capped 35 times for Austria and is considered as the ‘Next Nemanja Vidic’. His roots aside (Serbian descent), he impresses with his composure, game reading and blocking. He is also quite strong in the air with his 186 centimeters height and has solid ball control with both feet. Dragović is a natural leader and lack of similar kind of players in United dressing room may make this transfer more imminent as the window progresses.
