# Manchester United 3-0 Cambridge United: Match report

The match at Old Trafford was delayed 20 minutes but that didn’t stop Cambridge United almost getting off to a flyer, with Tom Elliot latching onto a loose ball in the first minute.

Manchester United then settled down and after a few unsuccessful attempts took the lead in the 25th minute through Juan Mata. After a Fellaini knock down at the back post, Mata simply could not miss from two yards out.

7 minutes later, Cambridge again failed to deal with Marouane Fellaini from a corner, his shot was deflected to Van Persie who cleverly stabbed the ball across goal & it reached Marcos Rojo who then poached home his first goal for the Red Devils.

Manchester United finished it off in the 73rd minute when Ander Herrera, made an instant impact after replacing, arguably the man of the match, Angel Dì Maria. He found fellow substitute James Wilson lurking outside the box who then evaded one defender and accurately placed it into the bottom corner past a scrambling Dunn.

Manchester United dominated from the start as expected and were in full control of the game. Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria and Marouane Fellaini all had outstanding games and are candidates for man of the match.

Marcos Rojo and McNair played well at the back and Robin Van Persie, despite not scoring, looked like the Robin from the 2012-13 season looking lively every time he was on the ball. Wayne Rooney dictated the tempo in the midfield and almost scored a few himself.

Overall after a slow start it was a good performance from Manchester United against the League 2 side. Manchester United now face Preston in the fifth round of the FA Cup and are looking to win it for the first time in 11 years.

Managers Comments

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: “Cambridge have played very well, a very organised team and with the mentality that was superb. The fans were fantastic from Cambridge United. We have done what we had to.”

“Every club in the FA Cup wants to win, we also. We have to beat Preston and that will not be easy, they won away against a cup fighter like Sheffield United, so it will be difficult for us to win in Preston North End.”

“For the club, the fans and the coach and my staff, we want to win a title this year. The biggest chance is the FA Cup, but we still have to win four games to do that.”

“Tonight, I don’t think we played a very good match. But it is always difficult against a defensive team. We could have done better but I am pleased with the result.”
