# Kevin Strootman deal hits complications

It seems that Kevin Strootman may be sidelined for longer than previously thought following surgery on his ruptured knee ligament, which originally was to put him out of action for 9 months.

Former Roma club doctor Mario Brozzi has revealed in a recent interview that “the surgery on Strootman’s ligament did not go perfectly” and that if the extent of damage is where he believes it to be there is “no way out” for the midfielder. However he would not speculate as to whether or not he would be needing further surgery.

Rumours erupted about Strootmans’ knee after he limped off in a 1-1 draw when Roma faced Fiorentina on the 25th of January, however this was played down by the club until Strootman himself tweeted about it, revealing “some cartilaginous damage, caused by the knock in the Fiorentina match, was found”, in his most recent surgery and that it will “take a longer rest period than anticipated”, for him to return to the pitch, which has left him “extremely disappointed”.

Fellow countryman Louis Van Gaal originally, in July, confirmed that he would ‘wait’ to see the progress the Dutchman makes on his recovery before making a move to bring him to Old Trafford. However this wait seems to a never-ending one which could certainly be frustrating Van Gaal, as he is a player that he clearly desires to have at Manchester United.
