# Chris Smalling linked to Arsenal switch

According to multiple sources, Arsenal seem to be interested in bringing Manchester United center- half Chris Smalling to London. Many state a fee, believed to be in the region of £12million, would tempt United into selling the young England defender, although according to the Manchester evening news, Louis van Gaal will reject any offer coming in for Smalling.

Smalling cost Manchester United £10million in 2010, with Arsenal reportedly chasing his signature from Fulham also. Smalling is having a good period in the team now but has had a somewhat average career for United so far in the eyes of many fans. Chris Smalling has made 93 appearances for United scoring 5 goals and has represented his country on 15 occasions which, at the age of 25, is impressive. At club level, he already has 2 premier league medals and will be looking to add more in the future.

I personally like Smalling and I feel that he is deserving of his run in the team currently and has the potential to be a very important player for Manchester United in the future. I would like to see him stay and fulfill his potential at the club and become a top defender. Whatever the future may hold for Smalling, it is unlikely the Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal will allow one of his trusted defenders to join a rival club like Arsenal unless the offer is too good to refuse which, I feel is unlikely given the fact that Smalling is not highly sought after and seems happy as a starter at Manchester United,

Although, Louis Van Gaal may see Smalling as surplus to requirements if he is to bring in reported top defensive targets such as Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane or Aymeric Laporte.
