# The stars who should leave in the summer

A lot has changed at Manchester United since last summer. Louis van Gaal’s arrival has seen new faces come in, old ones depart and a new style of play under the lights at Old Trafford. The likes of Darren Fletcher and Danny Welbeck have gone to pastures new, whilst we have been blessed with huge names in Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao. So as Louis van Gaal looks to stamp his authority on the Premier League and Champions League next season and make his mark in the United history books, who should make way in the summer?

**Ben Amos**

Amos was once expected to be United and England’s first choice between the sticks, but just past his 25th birthday, his career has not reached the heights it maybe could have. Loans to clubs such as Oldham and Carlisle have been somewhat underwhelming in the past and Amos is now probably United’s fifth choice keeper, behind David De Gea, Victor Valdes, Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone. It’s time for him to move on before his career reaches a standstill.

**Anders Lindegaard**

Lindegaard may not be a fan favourite, but he’s a very capable goalkeeper, which he has demonstrated on many occasions for the Reds. It is for this reason I think he should leave us in the summer. A goalkeeper of his quality should be starting Premier League games, not watching them from the stands or in front of the telly as a third choice. I’d like to see him as a first choice keeper elsewhere, and would be happy enough to let him move on given Sam Johnstone’s talent.

**Rafael Da Silva**

It pains me to say this but I think similarly to Lindegaard, Rafael should leave to further his career. It is obvious that Antonio Valencia is preferred at right-back by van Gaal, and the supposed arrival of Nathaniel Clyne in the summer would see our Brazilian terrier pushed to third choice – and that’s the last thing I want for him. I’d love to see him win his place back, and I hope he does, but if van Gaal tells him that he’s surplus to requirements, he can leave with his head held high.

**Jonny Evans**

With names such as Mats Hummels, Nicolas Otamendi and Pepe being floated about as targets for United this summer, there is no way we can keep all 3 of Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones alongside any incoming centre back, Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett. Jones is still young enough to improve himself, and Smalling has shown his true colours this season, so I’d like to see them stay and improve further. I think the starting berths at United next season will be for a new signing and either Rojo or Smalling, with Jones being the next option. The ban Jonny received at St James Park for the spitting incident with Papiss Cisse may be his last action in the famous red, white and black.

**Tom Cleverley**

Unfortunately, this doesn’t really need an explanation. After seriously impressing during his breakthrough into the first team, bossing the Premier League alongside the already departed Anderson, Cleverley’s injury problems really stunted his development and he was finally surrendered at the start of this campaign to a loan spell at struggling Aston Villa. He’s shown perhaps more consistency there than he did at United of late, and fresh rumours have emerged that Everton are looking to pick him up on a permanent deal in August. With Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick firing on all cylinders, and no doubt another midfielder joining the ranks in the transfer window, there is simply no place for Cleverley in the squad any more. Another great youth talent who just hasn’t made the grade.

**Radamel Falcao**

It is with a heavy heart that I have to concede that our experiment with El Tigre must come to an end sooner rather than later. I’m overjoyed that I got the opportunity to get his name on the back of my United shirt and watch him play for us on many occasions at Old Trafford, but he just doesn’t fit. His determination is there, his passion is there, and the fans (largely) love him. However, the goals that he made his name with have not come in a United shirt. He’s simply not worth the £45 million asking price, unless he can seriously turn his form around and miraculously impress van Gaal into giving him a second chance.

You may wonder why I haven’t mentioned Nani and Javier Hernandez in this article – so I’ll explain that here. Nani has been exceptional on loan at Sporting this season, and has stated his desire to come back to Old Trafford and prove himself. I’m an avid supporter of him and think he could really benefit from van Gaal’s management – in the same vein as Ashley Young and Fellaini. If we can get him and Di Maria firing at full throttle behind Wayne Rooney, defences will be left in tatters. Let’s give him another shot. I feel much the same way for Hernandez. Sir Alex used him similarly to how he used Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – and it was effective. I’d love to see Hernandez’s big Mexican grin back in Manchester – with Falcao likely leaving and Robin van Persie rumoured to be heading out the door too, keeping hold of Chicharito could provide us with some vital goals next campaign, and without having to pay a transfer fee.**\**
