# Everton v Manchester United: Predicted line-up

On Sunday Manchester United will travel to Goodison Park in an attempt to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s loss at the hands of the league leaders Chelsea. This fixture last season saw United crumble as the Toffees won 2-0 proving to be the last game of David Moyes’ reign. The reverse fixture at Old Trafford saw United come out with a 2-1 win, mainly thanks to the late heroics of David de Gea and goals from Ángel Di María and Radamel Falcao. Here is the predicted line-up.

**David de Gea –** Louis van Gaal has claimed this week that United have offered de Gea “a lot of money” to stay at the club and his importance to United cannot be understated. Untied should and will do everything they can to keep him away from Spain’s capital.

**Antonio Valencia –** With increasingly assured performances against Chelsea and Manchester City, the Ecuador international is growing into his new right-back role and with Rafael suffering from injuries in the under-21s his time playing there could extend past this season.

**Chris Smalling –** Another player who has this season and has grown tremendously in stature and composure since his horror show at the Etihad, earlier this season. His new four year contract will certainly come as a confidence booster for him as he looks to staple down a long-term starting place in the team.

**Patrick McNair –** A very impressive return to the team for the 19 year-old against Chelsea. His ability to run with the ball and his strength and composure to mark Didier Drogba was very commendable. With only Jonny Evans available as a senior centre-back, McNair could get the nod ahead of him due to Evans’ lack of match fitness.

**Luke Shaw –** The best attacker against Chelsea has shown why United were willing to pay such big money for him. His sheer pace, strength and determination make him a valuable asset on the left hand side of the field. His defensive capabilities will also be tested more this week as he will be up against Coleman and Mirallas.

**Daley Blind –** Close to recovery last week against Chelsea, so he should be fit in time for the trip to Everton. The presence of either Blind or Carrick in the midfield is vital as proven by their absence against Chelsea. He will be a vital cog in United’s midfield, distributing the ball and allowing Herrera and Rooney to play in their more natural positions.

**Ander Herrera –** Played in a more unfamiliar defensive role against Chelsea, but was still involved in United’s attacking play and kept the ball ticking, kept disciplined despite a few misplaced passes. A move back to a more attacking position will only reap benefits for United.

**Marouane Fellaini –** Had a difficult time against Chelsea due to Kurt Zouma’s constant marking and of him, but a return to Goodison Park for the first time since his arrival at United should get him back to his best.

**Juan Mata –** Another player who didn’t replicate his good form against Chelsea. His distance from Herrera, a lack of understanding with Falcao compared to Rooney and a resilient and packed Chelsea defence all got in his way. Against Everton, he should find more space to operate with Baines bombing up the field allowing him to return to working his magic down United’s right hand side.

**Wayne Rooney –** Put in a solid and disciplined midfield performance against Chelsea, but spurned a chance early on in the tie. Radamel Falcao’s lack of conviction and van Persie’s injury have all meant that Rooney is without doubt United’s best striker and a return to the striker position will certainly suit him and the team.

**Ángel Di María** – Ashley Young’s pedestrian performance against Chelsea could see Di María returning to starting line-up for the first time since Arsenal. Everton’s attacking fullbacks will mean there will be lots of space for Di María to exploit on the left-hand side which could give him the confidence boost he needs to finish the season strongly.
