# Van Gaal hoping for an attacking threat

**Louis van Gaal was critical of his team after the 3-0 defeat to Everton two weeks ago, and was understandably disappointed again after the Reds slipped to a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion last time out.**

Speaking ahead of Saturday evening’s game however, he was his usual cool, confident self. “I am not very concerned, but we must start finishing our chances,” he said.

Talking of the battle to secure fourth place, he added: “I think we need a little bit of luck and also composure \[in front of goal\]. That I cannot provide, the players have to do that by themselves. We have the pressure. Liverpool have to play these matches and have to win them also, but we have to focus on our match. They’re at home but I still expect that they’ll defend more than attack.”

He also revealed that Michael Carrick will not feature again this season, but Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw are available for selection at Selhurst Park: “Carrick’s not available, it was more heavy \[serious\] than we thought. We tried everything but now we have to think about next season. He shall not play anymore this season. Evans and Shaw can play football; or the game”

The manager did also concede that Evans lacks “match-rhythm”. This will probably mean a start for the also-returning Phil Jones, although don’t be surprised if Evans makes an appearance from the subs bench.
