# Crystal Palace vs Manchester United: Last five meetings

**5th March 2005 – Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester United (Premier League)**

In Palace’s last season in the Premier League before they were promoted again in 2013, the Eagles hosted title-hopeful United who were trailing six points behind rampant Chelsea with ten matches to go. Despite having a player advantage for almost half an hour and enormous attacking talent in Van Nistelrooy, Giggs, Ronaldo and Rooney on display, Manchester United failed to capitalise and started an infamous run of just one goal scored in five league matches. United finished third that season, with 18 points behind PL debutant Jose Mourinho and six behind former “Invincibles” Arsenal.

**30th November 2011 – Manchester United 1-2 Crystal Palace (Carling Cup Fifth Round)**

First meeting of these two after six and a half years ended in sorrow for United fans. Sir Alex Ferguson sent out weakened cup team against Championship Palace side and regretted later. Away team gained the lead after a 35 yard wonder-strike by Darren Ambrose, but conceded minutes later with Federico Macheda earning and converting the penalty. United were unable to finish the job in regular time, just to give the opportunity to Glenn Murray, player Reds must try to stop on Saturday, to nod in a free-kick. This match remained in a memory of then 19-year-old Wilfried Zaha giving a nightmare to United defenders.

**14th September 2013 – Manchester United 2-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League)**

Moyes’ first league Old Trafford victory came against newly promoted Palace, who won the play-off final season earlier. Match marked with controversy around Ashley Young ended in 2-0 triumph, with Van Persie scoring the late first-half penalty for which Palace’s Dikgacoi was sent off. Two United Belgians Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini made their league debuts before Rooney slotted in a free-kick to wrap points up.

**22 February 2014 – Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester United (Premier League)**

United ended a run of three games without a win in last season’s trip to Selhurst Park. In series of unconvincing performances, Reds surprised with complete control of the match against tough Palace who were invigorated by Tony Pulis. United missed couple of good chances in the first 45 minutes, but secured a win with a six-minute-blitzkrieg; Patrice Evra won a penalty (which Van Persie smashed home in 62nd minute of the game) and assisted to Rooney for his fantastic first-time-volley.

**8 November 2014 – Manchester United 1-0 Crystal Palace (Premier League)**

In earlier clash this season, United awaited Neil Warnock’s team in 10th place after narrow Etihad defeat. Attacking-minded Van Gaal started the likes of Di Maria, Van Persie and Rooney with make-shift centre-back pairing McNair-Blind, but couldn’t make a breakthrough. Palace missed the best chance of the game, before 67th minute when super-sub Juan Mata, after just four minutes in play, dared to fire a 20-yard-shot which caught away keeper Speroni unprepared for the only goal of the game. United left the worst start to Premier League season behind them and went on 6-game-winning-streak.
