# Ryan Giggs the key factor in Galactico transfer

**Manchester United’s interest in Gareth Bale has been undoubtedly strong for some time now, peaking when Ed Woodward attempted to hijack his transfer to Real Madrid back in the summer of 2013.**

The then champions of England apparently offered Tottenham Hotspur more money than their Spanish counterparts, but Daniel Levy was unwilling to sell within the Premier League so Bale set off for Madrid with a world-record fee of £85.3 million behind him.

The Welsh superstar has endured the highest of highs as well as some horrible lows in his two seasons in the Spanish capital – he scored the winning goal in the Copa Del Rey final and nodded in during extra time in Real’s Champions League victory last season. He was on top of the world and was key to every success the royal team had.

This season has been a different story, however. Accused of being selfish in possession and wasting many good goal scoring chances in huge games, Bale has been persistently booed and mocked by his own fans – who have recently gone as far as to attack his car after a game, damaging it severely. Madrid’s latest British recruit is under heavy friendly fire at the moment and he might be looking for an emergency evacuation.

Reports in Spain this morning have suggested that Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has held meetings with Real Madrid’s hierarchy to consult with them on the winger’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale is determined to stay at Madrid and fight for his place in the team and the hearts of the fans – no matter how long the latter takes. He wants to build on the successes of his first season in Spain and make a name for himself in Real’s history books.

However, this all hinges on what was or is to be said by the men in charge at Madrid. Bale is thought to want assurances of the club’s plans for him before he goes on holiday in the off-season. If he and his agent are told that the club plan to keep him and reward him for his loyalty with the place he probably deserves in the team, he will stay for as long as he feels necessary.

On the contrary, if the hierarchy decide that they will listen to offers for the Welshman, he is likely to take this as a signal that he should move on – with clubs around Europe seeking his services.

Manchester City, Chelsea and of course Tottenham will all vie for his attention in the Premier League, whilst Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain and even Barcelona are said to be looking into a possible transfer. However, at this moment in time it is thought that Manchester United hold a slight advantage in the race for the wide man, as their previous interest, promising intent to mount a title challenge built around the arrival of world-class talent and connection to Bale through Ryan Giggs are all huge factors.

Spanish and British media have been signalling that Giggs, United’s second in command, has been talking to Bale about what he would face at United and how that may be more favourable to him than what is on offer elsewhere.

Nobody can say for certain what the future holds with Gareth Bale and Madrid/Manchester United but this summer will be an interesting one on that front, as this saga doesn’t look likely to end all too swiftly.
