# Bastian Schweinsteiger linked to Manchester United

**De Rossi, Marchisio, Vidal, Kroos and Thiago have all been linked with moves to Manchester United as the club have been continuously linked with players who can dictate the midfield.**

Now with the former Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal in charge at Old Trafford, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that one of his old players is linked with a move.

Germany’s veteran midfield Bastian Schweinsteiger has been linked to a surprise switch to Old Trafford according to reports by Ian Ladyman for the Daily Mail. The midfielder who is captain of the German national team has played for Bayern all his career, but with only one year remaining on his current contract and with Bayern needing a rejuvenation of their squad it wouldn’t be surprising to see him move on from the 25-times German champions.

The 30-year-old would go against United’s transfer policy to not sign anyone over the age of 27 to ensure a suitable resell value if the player moves on, but Louis van Gaal may look past that in order to bring in a superb reader of the game. Dubbed “the brain” of Germany by Joachim Loew and “fußballgott” (football God) by the Bayern faithful, Schweinsteiger’s immense amount of European and International experience to the heart of United’s midfield.

Talks have escalated as Sportsmail revealed that United have already initiated contact and that Schweinsteiger even visited Manchester recently under his own steam to have a look round the area.  The German midfielder may also be available at an incredible cut price fee of £10 million due to his contract situation and his age.

Whilst Schweinsteiger is certainly not the long-term solution for United’s midfield he can add a short-term boost to invigorate the midfield as his combative playstyle coupled with his eye for goal and accurate passing would make him a valuable asset in any top European team. Schweinsteiger who has previously worked with Van Gaal and usually operates as a box-to-box motor, but can also occupy a more defensive-midfield role, allowing him to occupy a number of positions if need be.

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s big-game experience can help United next season where their schedule will be busier and their fixtures tougher.
