Daley Blind enjoyed a good debut campaign with Manchester United and expects them to mount a serious challenge for the title next season.
United finished fourth last season but Blind believes the Red Devils have much more quality than the 17 point gap to Chelsea suggests. In an interview for the Season Review DVD, the versatile Dutchman had the following to say:
“If you look at the end of this season we’ve done well and we’ve picked up a lot of points, even though the last few games were difficult, but I think we have a good chance next year.
“If you look at the games we’ve played against the top teams, we’ve won a lot of points and a club like Manchester United will always aim to win the title. Next year, we’re going to do that.”
In his debut season Blind started 29 games in varying positions including left-back, holding midfield and at left centre-back in a three-man defence. He spoke about how happy he is at how he’s adjusted to life in the Premier League, but also feels likes he could have performed better in the concluding games.
“The pace of the game is much higher here but I think I’ve adapted well – I think perhaps I could have done better in a few games at the end of the season.”
Blind had nothing but kind words for Louis van Gaal who purchased him from Ajax in the summer for roughly £15million after a successful World Cup with the Netherlands.
“This year, I think I’ve learned a lot from him and I’m very happy that he has a lot of confidence in me, and that he brought me to this beautiful club,” he added.
“I’m thankful for that. You have to work very hard for him. He asks 100% of you every day, but that’s good, it keeps you sharp and makes you better.”
