Robin van Persie’s future at United uncertain

Robin van Persie has dropped a huge hint that he might be considering his future at Manchester United, by saying “I want to play every week”.

It is the first time the Dutch forward has spoken publically about his uncertain future at Old Trafford and the doubt he has cast over it will alert potential suitors Juventus and Fenerbahce.

The 31-year-old has just one year left on his current contract and following a disappointing 2014/15 season, it seems unlikely that he will be offered an extension. And after his comments today, fresh doubt has been raised over whether he will see out the final year of his deal.

“I want to play first-team football and to play every week at a high level at a big club”, van Persie said. “The club will have to do some homework and so will I. I will take everything into consideration and weigh up what is the best solution in this strange situation”.

Injuries have restricted van Persie’s impact on the United’s successful quest to return to the top four, and he only made one start for the club since suffering an ankle problem in February. With Euro 2016 only a year away, van Persie will be focussed on ensuring that he doesn’t lose his place in Dutch national side ahead of a major tournament. Whether this means him having to leave Old Trafford for pastures new remains to be seen.
