# David Moyes reveals desperation to sign Gareth Bale

**David Moyes’ disappointing reign as Manchester United manager started in his first summer transfer window where he failed to sign any world-class names, where only a late and overpriced Marouane Fellaini came in. Yet, he has revealed that he was in fact desperate to bring in a certain Welsh winger to Old Trafford.**

Gareth Bale has been consistently linked to a move to Manchester United this summer, following a number of poor performances and his struggle to win over the fans of Real Madrid. His poor performances have led to rumours that he doesn’t get along with Real Madrid’s star man and former United player, Cristiano Ronaldo, which has further added fuel to his exit rumours.

Yet, the former Manchester United manager David Moyes revealed to Sky Sports that he is a huge admirer of the Welsh player and spoke of his attempts to bring him to Old Trafford when he was in charge.

“Firstly, Gareth Bale is an outstanding player,” Moyes said. “I was desperate to take him to Manchester United from Tottenham, but couldn’t quite get him. He had his heart set on going to Real Madrid. He was very much on my radar as soon as I went to United.”

Whilst Bale has previously hinted at his desire to stay in Madrid, he hasn’t ruled out a move and it certainly hasn’t deterred United from signing him with recent reports suggesting they have lodge a whopping £110 million bid for Bale and his team-mate Raphael Varane.

Yet, David Moyes, who himself endured rough times at Manchester United spoke of the difficult transition for British players abroad.

“It is down to settling in,” Moyes said. “David de Gea took time to settle at Manchester United, it is not easy. We have to give him time, Bale is no different to anyone else.”

“As a British player playing abroad, you have to get involved, immerse yourself in the culture. You have to get used to the living times, the eating habits. He is at a great club that will give him opportunity to succeed and I think he will.”

Until Real Madrid make clear that Bale is not for sale under any circumstances they can expect consistent bids and enquiries made by Manchester United to bring the flying Welshman to Old Trafford.
