# United target Dani Alves commits Catalan future

**Manchester United are set to miss out on transfer target Dani Alves, who has put pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal with Champions League victors Barcelona.**

The Brazilian full-back will also have the option to remain at Camp Nou for a third year, meaning Louis van Gaal will have to continue his hunt for a new right-back. United’s manager has deemed Rafael da Silva surplus to requirements, and the general conscious from staff and supporters alike suggest Antonio Valencia should be preferred in a natural midfield position.

However, Alves has become the second full-back to appear to rule out a move to Manchester United, despite being reported as very close to completing a deal. The 32-year-old follows after Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne appeared to be unwilling to make a move to the Theatre of Dreams, to join former Saints youngster Luke Shaw.

Alves also turned down an offer from Serie A side AC Milan, with his agent – and ex-wife – confirming just hours ago he had received an official offer to head to San Siro. It is believed that Manchester United never placed an official contract offer on the table for the three-time Champions League winners.

The news comes shortly after completing his second treble with Barcelona, lifting La Liga, the Copa del Rey and most recently the prestigious European Cup – alongside former Red Gerard Pique while lining up against Paul Pogba, Patrice Evra and Carlos Tevez, who all had spells at Old Trafford.

Dani Alves will now remain at Barcelona until June 2017, but could extend that deal for a further year should he wish.
