# Mata Wants Chicharito to Remain at Old Trafford

Juan Mata has told reporters in Mexico that he wants Javier Hernandez to stay at Manchester United next season, according to Samuel Luckhurst of the *Manchester Evening News*.

Hernandez spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants chose not to make the deal permanent, and the Mexican international is due to report for pre-season training at Carrington in July.

His future stills remains unclear despite finishing the season in Madrid impressively. The 27-year-old scored the winner against Real’s city rivals Atletico in the Champions League quarter final but couldn’t help *Los Blancos* avoid ending the campaign trophy-less.

Hernandez has only one year left to run on his current deal and Louis van Gaal is reportedly happy to let the striker leave. Mata, though, has urged his manager to give Hernandez another chance; “*Chicharito still belongs to Manchester United and selfishly I’d like him to be with us*,” he told reporters.

“*He has scored goals in every team he has played in and is a very smart striker.*

*“Chicharito is a great friend. When I arrived to Manchester he behaved great with me. He is a great person and a great professional. I’ve been lucky enough to share a dressing room with Chicharito, whom I admire.”*

Chicharito will need to display the form which turned him into a fan favourite, following his £7 million arrival from Guadalajara in 2010, if he wants to work his way back into Louis van Gaal’s plans.

He scored twenty goals in his debut season, the first player since Ruud van Nistelrooy to achieve the feat, and has gone on to find the net fifty-nine times in 154 appearances for Manchester United.
