# Transfer blow for United

Manchester United’s hopes of securing the signature of Bastian Schweinsteiger have taken a turn for the worse, after the German midfielder revealed his ambitions to win more trophies for Bayern Munich.

Speaking to German paper Die Welt, the 30-year old midfielder said that he wants to make history with Bayern by winning a fourth straight German league title, something that has never been done before.

“We’ve won the Bundesliga for three consecutive times, no team ever has managed to win it four times. That’s a motivation. I feel good and I’m ready to play the next three years at the top level. That’s my goal.”

Schweinsteiger also said that the desire to win trophies has not left his game after winning multiple Bundesligas, the Champions League and the World Cup in the past three years.

“I would love to win the Champions League once again. Winning big trophies like the Champions League or the World Cup is usually making people think: ‘The players are not hungry anymore”. Still, that’s not what I feel.”

These comments mark a u-turn for the German captain, who admitted earlier this summer that a new contract was not a priority, instead focusing his attention on recovering from injury problems. Schweinsteiger only made 28 appearances in all competitions last season, as Pep Guardiola reduced him to a peripheral role in the Bayern side.

“I am in no hurry to renew. It is not something that bothers me because I have a year left before it expires. The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow,” he said back in May.

This will no doubt be bad news for United manager Louis van Gaal, who will have wanted to be reunited with a man he previously coached at Bayern, and a man who would have added much needed experience to United’s midfield.
