# United decide on De Gea replacement – if he leaves

With David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid now a case of when rather than if a lot of stories have been floated around about who United will choose to replace him.

The odds on favourite throughout the saga had been Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, with numerous journalists linking him with a move to Manchester and him admitting that a move to a Champion’s League club would be hard to turn down.

However according to Rhys Turrel of the Daily Star, it would seem that United aren’t actually going to look to buy a replacement for the Spaniard and instead are favouring a move to promote fellow Spaniard Victor Valdes into the 1st choice goalkeeper role.

He claims that Tottenham are demanding £30 million for the French international however United are unwilling to spend so highly on Lloris. He also mentions that another man in the frame was Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, however with his move to Chelsea seeming certain due to Cech’s departure United have been left without any favourable transfer targets.

The Red Devils are also reportedly considering bids for Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen and Inter’s Samir Handanovic, it is believed though that LVG doesn’t feel that these two keepers are any better than Valdes.

Victor Valdes joined Manchester United on a free transfer after spending a considerable amount of time at the club, while they helped him recover from a serious knee injury. The Spaniard made his first appearance for United when he replaced the injured David De Gea against Arsenal on the 17th May. Valdes then made his full debut the final Premier League game of the season, away to Hull City.
